Abstract
The Landmap Service has been engaged in the acquisition, and processing of ASAR data for the past eighteen months. The use of radar data is restricted by the perception of difficulty in acquisition, processing to precise geo-coded products and interpretation of the resultant images. The aim of this work is to move the use of ASAR data from the realm of the specialist to the general area of remote sensing applications.Landmap have provided precisely geo-coded and calibrated ASAR data for use by the academic community. The data is available to users for download from the Landmap website, http://landmap.mimas.ac.uk. The data is also available through OGC WMS/WCS and Image Streaming.Although ASAR products have been made available to the academic community low usage has been observed. To promote the use of ASAR data several strategies have been implemented:1. Collaborations with remote sensing community 2. Presentations and promotion of the use of ASAR 3. Creation of ASAR educational materialsThe paper reports on Landmap Service efforts to increase ASAR usage and future recommendations.
