Reading academic texts

Research output: Chapter in Book/Conference proceedingChapterpeer-review

Abstract

Reading is a component part of knowledge development, but requires activity and reflection in order to become fully developed and reiterated knowledge when required. This means that if you write at the same time as reading, you will not have full knowledge of the area being read. Reading is one part of a process to knowledge development and is crucial to your studies in tourism, hospitality and events (THE) management. Your tutors and lecturers will require you to complete the recommended reading, but also look to read around a topic area. This chapter will support your academic development by outlining inductive, deductive, surface and deep reading approaches.
