Abstract

It is becoming increasingly clear that the insulin responses of a number of different cell types within the kidney are important in the maintenance of normal renal function. This review summarizes our current understanding of renal insulin signalling, with specific focus on the podocyte, presenting recent evidence that suggests these responses are altered in systemic insulin-resistant states and chronic kidney disease via a number of different mechanisms. © 2013 The Author 2013.
