Abstract

This short article reports on the first year of my term as Bishop Otter Scholar for Theology and the Arts - a role created in a partnership between the Diocese of Chichester and King's College London.

It gives details of the activities undertaken in that role, and in particular, my oversight of the archive of Tom Devonshire Jones and Art and Christianity Enquiry, held at the Bishop's Palace, Chichester. The article includes a brief summary of contents of the archive, and includes an extract, published for the first time, from a 1993 letter from the artist Hans Feibusch to Devonshire Jones. Feibusch was a German Jewish émigré to Britain who worked extensively for the Anglican Church. The extract published here gives a fascinating insight into Feibusch's own religious beliefs.
