Abstract
This report presents the results of a statistical analysis of the Law Society of Scotlands Guarrantee Fund's claims register. The statistical results provide evidence that decisions on individual claims against the Guarantee Fund are statistically related to factors beyond the merits of the claim. These factors appear to include the total value of claims made in the year in which the individual claim was received (admission of liability, ratio of amount admitted to amount claimed), the total value of payments in the year in which the claim was made (number of days to decision) and the total value of the individual claim (number of days to decision).
