Abstract
Our paper was written to gather information on the adoption by UK universities of doctorates by published papers in the Social Sciences and Humanities, and to explore the challenges thrown up by the introduction of such a new format for these disciplines. We are aware that this format is widely in use in the physical/life/medical sciences and in a number of countries abroad.
