Abstract
In this interview, we speak with Dr. Joia Mukherjee about global health and social medicine. Dr. Mukherjee is an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Global Health Equity at the Department of Medicine at Brigham and Women's Hospital and an Associate Professor of Global Health and Social Medicine at Harvard Medical School. She also directs the Master of Medical Sciences in Global Health Delivery program and the Program in Global Medical Education and Social Change at the Department of Global Health and Social Medicine.
In this video, we discuss how social medicine can address health inequality and how rights-based healthcare can improve medical care in the poorest communities. Dr. Mukherjee has helped create new training programs for physicians in Rwanda and Haiti, as well as global health residencies and fellowships for health professionals in the United States. Since 2000, Dr. Mukherjee has served as the Medical Director of Partners In Health, a non-profit organization dedicated to reducing global health disparities by strengthening health systems through community programs and support for the public sector.
