Abstract
Mary Shelley's novel Frankenstein was published in 1818, three years before the publication of Richard Laurence's translation of Ethiopic Enoch (1 Enoch), The Book of Enoch the Prophet, in 1821. It is proposed that Mary Shelley was aware of the story of the giants in the The Book of the Watchers, and that she was influenced by this narrative in her creation of the infamous, murderous, monster-giant.
