Abstract
Frustrated with the grocery work (see photo 1) he’d reluctantly returned to at the end of the Great War , Halsey Freeman started his photography business in Tewkesbury in 1922. Economically, times were hard (the government’s famous ‘land fit for heroes’ promises, manifestly, having failed to materialise) so the move could either have been seen as extremely rash or courageous. But Halsey was determined to make his mark and his unstinting wife - my grandmother Lizzie - was evidently happy enough for him to pursue his dreams.
