    Abstract

This paper presents detailed analysis of the effectiveness of different input signals used as auxiliary control signals for Static VAR Compensators (SVCs) for damping of power system oscillations. The influence of the location of the SVC in power system on its effectiveness in damping of system oscillations is also analysed. Different control strategies were used to assess the most appropriate auxiliary signal and the best location of the SVC for achieving good damping of electromechanical oscillations. The study presented in the paper was carried out on a single machine - three bus system under different operating conditions.
