Sheathing materials for dielectric, aerial, self-supporting cables for application on high voltage power lines

    Abstract

The results from dry-band arc testing are strongly dependent on the test arrangements. In particular the impedance of the voltage source and supply circuit has a large effect. It is suggested that introducing a series resistor into the power supply in a salt-fog test may provide a useful technique by which such tests can be accelerated without recourse to use of unrealistically high voltages or short samples. Further work is required to understand the full implications of service conditions upon the ageing of cable materials.
