Abstract
Prompt gamma-ray cascades in neutron-rich nuclei around doubly-magic Sn-132 have been studied at Eurogam 2 array using a Cm-248 fission source. Yrast states to above 5.5 MeV in the two- and three-proton N = 82 isotones Te-134 and I-135 are reported. They are interpreted in terms of valence proton and particle-hole core excitations with the help of shell model calculations employing empirical nucleon-nucleon interactions from both Sn-132 and Pb-208 regions. A serious inconsistency in the accepted masses of N = 82 isotones near Sn-132 is discovered but not resolved.
