    Abstract

Eye diagram is adopted as a powerful tool to analyse the performance of an optical detector, which provides highly insightful information about components performance than S-parameter and photoresponse analysis. In this work a 16×20 μm2 In0.49Ga0.51P/GaAs DHPT operating as a short wavelength (850nm) photodetector is evaluated. PRBS signals with data rates between 0.5 to 3Gbps are used as the input signal to a modified small signal T-model circuit, which includes an optical current source, to simulate eye diagram in ADS. Through analysing eye diagrams deteriorations caused by the input optical power, data rate and physical parameters of the device variations, eye diagram would assist in device optimizations for performance enhancement.
