Abstract
Since their appearance in the USA in the fifties, simulation games have found increasing application in management training. Few managers (or trainers for that matter) appreciate the full potential of simulation games for active learning. Early games were characterised by their blandness and idealism. By contrast, most modern games have many realistic features and are tailored to meet specific needs. In this article we describe a new computer-based game developed jointly by UMIST and MAKRO Self-Service Wholesalers Ltd for use with junior wholesale cash and carry management and supervisory training.
