Abstract
A modeling approach for beam structures containing a transverse crack was presented. The method used finite element (FE) modeling with standard two node Euler-Bernoulli beam elements, except for those containing a crack. FE stiffness matrix was obtained by generating the flexibility matrix of beam element with a crack using the strain energy density function for the crack element. The simulated results were also presented.
