Abstract

This paper explores the feasibility of achieving flux density sensing capability in electric machinery by integration of soft magnetic composite material (SMC) with electromagnetic interference immune (EMI) fibre optic fibre Bragg grating (FBG) sensors. The sensor’s design, fabrication, and performance characterization are presented and experiments performed to evaluate the functional features and the ability of the proposed sensor architecture to monitor the rotating field dynamics typical of electrical machine applications.
