Abstract
A measure of the relative stability of the metastable states of a distributed explosive system is derived by using the functional integral approach in the steepest-descent approximation. As an example, the onset of stochastic thermal ignition in a slab of reacting material is considered, for the case in which a boundary temperature is fixed.
