Abstract
A review presents a general description of the structures of liq. crystals formed by surfactants, and how these relate to surfactant chem. structure. A summary of the behavior of micellar solns. is presented since micelles can be regarded as the building blocks of surfactant liq. crystals that occur at higher concns. A description of the various liq. crystal phases, the way that the mesophase type varies with surfactant chem. structure, and what happens with mixed surfactants is also provided. [on SciFinder (R)]
