    Abstract

Nitrile-functionalised pendant-arm macrocycles have been used as supporting ligands for the first binuclear complex containing a discrete two-electron (σ) μ2-κC:κC symmetrically bridged CN− ligand (see example depicted; N= hatched circle, C[DOUBLE BOND]Open circle, S=shaded circle). A different coordination mode of the bridging CN− ligand is observed on changing the length of the aliphatic chain in the functionalised pendant arms of the macrocycle.
