Abstract

Ni2(H2O)(en)2(BDC)2 (1) (en = ethylenediamine, BDC = 1,4-benzenedicarboxylate), has been synthesized hydrothermally. 1 Crystallizes in orthorhombic space group Fddd with a = 10.623(2) Å, b = 21.104(4) Å, and c = 42.829(9) Å. 1 is constructed from stacked neutral layers, [Ni2(H2O)(en)2(BDC)2]n. Ni ions in the structure coordinate to four oxygen atoms and two nitrogen atoms to form NiO4N2 octahedra and two NiO4N2 octahedra connect to each other with a common oxygen atom to form a Ni2O7N4 dimer. Magnetic measurement shows that the dominant magnetic exchange interactions of 1 are ferromagnetic in origin. TG–DSC studies show that 1 is stable up to 300 °C.
