Abstract
This paper explores modes of teaching-based industry-academia (I-A) collaborations among Indian Engineering & Technological (E&T) Higher Education Institutes (HEIs). This paper uses a mixed method. 11 qualitative case studies conducted through 32 interviews provide evidence of eight distinct modes of teaching-based I-A collaborations, while logistic regressions performed on original data from webpages of 2,056 E&T HEIs identify of HEI-level factors that influence the occurrence of eight modes of teaching-based industry-academia collaborations among Indian E&T HEIs. Descriptive statistics show that the frequency of occurrence of teaching-based I-A collaborations is significantly higher in high-tech E&T disciplines (Computer, IT, Electronics and Telecommunication) compared to low-tech E&T disciplines (Mechanical, Electrical and Civil). Results from the regression analysis suggest that HEIs’ geographic location, supporting entrepreneurship, engagement in industrial R&D and consultancy, academic autonomy, ownership structure, linkage with other E&T HEIs, offering of MBA courses alongside E&T courses and quality influence occurrence of eight modes teaching-based I-A collaboration.
