The 4th Industrial Revolution and B2B Relationships and Networks: A Research Agenda

Abstract

Industrie 4.0 is being heralded at the 4th Industrial Revolution and offers numerous pathways through which firms can connect with existing, potential and previous customers. A key question relating to this is if such interactions can be defined by our existing models, e.g. interaction and network approaches and constructs, e.g. power and cooperation, or if these electronically mediated relationships require our theoretical frameworks to be extended or even replaced. For example, these new technologies provide avenues for gaining much more detailed market insight than was previously possible while also opening many more coopetitive pathways. This paper explores this question and provides insight to the question based on a literature review and suggestions for avenues for further research.
