    Abstract

    This chapter summarizes the recent developments in laser processing research and new challenges for the near future. The chapter covers areas in laser cutting, welding, drilling, surface engineering, additive manufacturing, micro/nano fabrication, beam-material interactions, and systems and optics. Both industrial and scientific drivers for future research in laser materials processing are discussed.
