Abstract

Mineral concentrates from the Tulameen district, British Columbia, yielded platinum group minerals mainly as cubic platinum-iron(Pt3Fe) with tulameenite as a minor intergrown phase. Electron probe analyses gave compositions clustered round the Pt2FeCu point, indicating limited solid solution. Synthetic Pt2FeCu has a 3.885, c 3.588 A; calculated X-ray intensities for a cell with Pt at 000 and 1/21/20, and Fe and Cu at 1/201/2 and 01/21/2 are in agreement with the measured intensities but the position of Fe and Cu could not be differentiated. TEM revealed micro-twinning on (101). -R.A.H.
