Abstract

The UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women has contributed to the implementation of Security Council Resolution 1325 in several capacities: monitoring of State compliance with the Convention through its periodic reporting mechanisms, developing the aims of resolution 1325 through its own codification practice and advancing public awareness about the objectives and the human rights dimension of Resolution 1325. The chapter argues that these laudable actions notwithstanding, the implementation of UNSCR 1325 through the Committee’s action has its own limits. The Committee’s mechanisms should be improved regarding the consistency of its recommendations, the preparedness of its questions and procedural rules to make the Resolution more effective.
