    Abstract

The depositional environment of the upper strata of the Ashfell Sandstone Formation in east Cumbria is investigated. By recording the sedimentary sequence, we have determined a series of facies and facies associations from which we have interpreted the conditions of sedimentation during late Arundian (Visean, Mississippian) times. The most likely interpretation is that sedimentation occurred in a shallow
