Abstract

Artificial intelligence (AI) is a term that represents an exciting and huge field of practice and research, ranging from technological approaches to control of automation to philosophy of mind. This chapter looks to the historic work of Seymour Papert and cutting-edge work in developmental robotics to suggest how we can draw on explorative AI It helps teachers (and anyone who is interested!) to understand the importance of the historical context and influences on AI in computing education today. It aims to highlight how the content and process of learning have changed over time and the need for educational settings to reflect this. Through understanding and using AI concepts in teaching practice, teachers can not only develop their students’ AI literacies but also support all students in nurturing the art of learning.
