The effect of CeO2 on the microstructure and dielectric properties of CaTiO3-based ceramics.

    Abstract

    The effect of CeO2 additives on the microstructure and dielec. properties of a solid soln. of CaTiO3-La(Mg1/2Ti1/2)O3 ceramics was investigated. Addn. of CeO2 resulted in rapid increase in bulk densities of the ceramics accompanied by accelerated grain growth and redn. in the amt. of porosity. The sintered specimens were investigated using SEM and x-ray diffraction anal. Addn. of 0.5 wt% of CeO2 leads to a remarkably increase the relative permittivity. Further increase in content of CeO2 did not affect the relative permittivity. High Q values were maintained ?1 wt% CeO2; further addn. of ceria reduced the Q-value from 30000 to 22000 GHz. Sintered d. does not affect the Q-values. A high quality dielec. ceramic with er of 50 and Q*f of 30000 GHz was prepd. [on SciFinder (R)]
