Abstract

This paper focuses on the so-called Frank-Haller thesis that there existed a first Vienna Circle before World War One, influential for the later Vienna Circle around Moritz Schlick and comprising Hans Hahn, Philipp Frank and Otto Neurath as its core members. The evidence for the thesis is assessed and two recent criticisms are argued to miss the point.
