The LHCb vertex locator and displaced vertex trigger

Abstract

The vertex locator of the LHCb experiment must provide precise information on the production and decay vertices of b-hadrons both off-line and for the second level trigger. This article reviews the design of the vertex detector and vertex trigger algorithm. Recent test beam results are provided and the future development programme is outlined. © 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
