N2 - This working paper is based on my previous work on teachers' accents and the link this has with identity construction in the teaching profession. Here, however, I focus in particular on the concept of identity, notably my contribution of the notion of "real mes" - in other words, while identity is indeed pluralistic, I argue that there is the potential for identities which are very different in their (linguistic) realisation to nonetheless be perceived as real.
