The Outer Hebrides: Is New Legal Recognition Required?

Research output: Chapter in Book/Conference proceedingChapterpeer-review

Abstract

This piece of research examines two key and related questions: 1) whether the distinctiveness and identity of the Outer Hebrides' population are given appropriate recognition by the current UK legal framework; and 2) whether the present legal arrangements are sufficient to enable their inhabitants to decide their own future. It then considers whether any wider lessons might be learnt from other communities in comparable situations, either in the UK or in the international arena.
