Abstract

The Political Economy of WTO Implementation and China’s Approach to Litigation in the WTO explores the operation of WTO implementation regime in the context of international law theory of compliance while at the same time providing significant insights into China’s view on the notion of ‘compliance with public international law of trade’ in its Confucian context. - It is the first book of its kind in the area of international economic law to employ relevant social science theories to explain the treaty obligations and how different Members have approached the implementation of their WTO commitments.
- While trade lawyers have for a long time avoided dealing with the causal question “why and how states obey international law”, this volume is the first of its kind that has unequivocally answered this question.
- This volume has uncharacteristically dispelled the myth surrounding the question of how China foreign trade and investment policy have been shaped by China accession to the WTO.
- With its international economic law and political science flavour, this volume is easily accessible to students, policy makers, practitioners and academics with interest beyond international economic law and international relations.
- The inclusion of specific cases involving China significantly provide a snapshot of how foreign trade and investment policies are drafted and perceived by different stake holders in China as well as in other WTO members
- This excellent volume is uncomplicated in the way it discusses the nature of WTO implementation regime in a globalised economic order

The book has been reviewed many times and continue to generate debates amongst international lawyers and international relations scholars.
