Abstract

Research focusing on sustainability in project-focused companies is still emerging. This study considers the top-down approach and examines how social network between the senior executive of companies can help to transfer knowledge and resources to the companies to strengthen the environmental profile of companies. In this study, we analyse on average 500 companies in the construction sector as being an example of a sector that comprises mainly of project-focused organisations. We employed data mining techniques to show the patterns between companies’ social network and environmental governance of companies. Our results show that the Information collection ability; measured by Betweenness and Closeness metrics; plays a vital role in paying environmental incentives to employees, publishing climate change information. This is due to access to the information within the network and act as a broker among other companies to transfer information between them.
