Abstract

The world economic order has dramatically changed in recent years. The world global financial crises aside, Global Value Chains (GVCs) and Global Production Networks (GPNs) have significantly shaped and continue shaping the way current world economic and legal systems function. It becomes more and more apparent that GVCs/GPNs are not just a production or developmental phenomenon, rather its spread and surge was to some extend geared by the changes in international legal environment, in particular those affecting International Economic Law (IEL).

The aim of the presentation is to establish the extent to which law has influenced the development of GVCs/GPNs. It will also contain an overview of the interaction patterns between various types of law and GVCs/GPNs. In particular, the focus will be on the ways International Trade Law (ITL) and International Investment Law (IIL) could be used in GVCs/GPNs.

The legal analysis provided will be beneficial to legal scholars working in the IEL as well as to researchers in developmental studies.
