    Abstract

Tris(O-alkylxanthato)iron(iii) complexes (alkyl = Me (1), Et (2), and iBu (3)) were used as single source precursors for the synthesis of iron sulfide nanocrystals by thermolysis in oleylamine, hexadecylamine and octadecylamine at 170 to 300 °C. The morphology of the crystallites was strongly affected by the reaction conditions as well as the type of precursor used. © 2013 The Royal Society of Chemistry.
