Abstract

This paper theoretically analyses the propagation of measurement noise in Electrical Impedance Tomography (EIT) and its influence in image noise. The authors compare the behavior of three backprojection algorithms in front of noise. They present close-form approximated expressions for noise power in EIT. EIT image noise is argued to be gaussian distributed but with spatially variant statistics. There is a linear relation between measurement noise reduction and reduction in image noise. The study was validated with numerical simulation.
