Abstract
The effects of the moisture-transfer rate of clothing materials on thermoregulatory responses
during exercise in a climatic chamber were studied on seven untrained female subjects. It was
found that the relative humidity and absolute humidity of the clothing microclimate at chest
level, the exercise-induced increases of core, leg, and mean skin temperatures, and the
salivary lactic acid level were all significantly lower with a higher moisture-transfer rate.
These results prove that the moisture-transfer rate of clothing material is an important factor
affecting the thermoregulatory responses during exercise.
