    Abstract

Several research team have addressed the problem of annotating sequence data computationally, but no generic tools have emerged to help gather information on a given sequence or set of sequences. A prototype tool, called Precis, that automatically creates Protein Reports Engineered from Concise Information in Swiss-Prot was developed. Precis processes Swiss-Prot entries from sets of sequences, using information retrieval techniques to find commonalities and unique pieces of information.
