Abstract

Computer-based simulations have dramatically improved training facilities in most areas of operations management. Until recently there has been little comparative activity in the strategic management / planning sector. Here the simulation designer is confonted by situations which are much less amenable to conventional modelling techniques such as those of business gaming. Increasingly case study methodology is seen as the appropriate procedure for generating strategic simulations. This article gives a background to the development which is illustrated for a new computer-based strategic planning package.
