    Abstract

    NOVELTY - The device is fixed onto a part of the patient's skin. It includes a gas sensor (12) to detect gases and volatile species emanating from the skin.DETAILED DESCRIPTION - An INDEPENDENT CLAIM relates to a method for detecting a condition in a patient by obtaining a sample of gases and volatile species emanating from the skin. The gases and volatile species are detected with a gas sensor and detected contents are correlated with the occurrence of the condition.USE - The device may be used to detect a dermatic condition, especially skin cancer, but also a parasitic infestation, diabetes, heart disease, or the presence of heavy metals or drugs in the patient. It may be used with human or animal patients.ADVANTAGE - The device is non-intrusive and causes minimal discomfort.DESCRIPTION OF DRAWING(S) - The figure shows a cross-section through the device.
