Abstract
Traditional Chinese Medicine possesses a millennia-old historical legacy in China, with its cultural ethos profoundly shaping the evolution of medical philosophies both domestically and across neighboring regions. Investigating innovative pathways for advancing TCM's international cultural dissemination through tourism not only expands methodological frameworks for cultural tourism but also enriches TCM's contemporary conceptual dimensions and facilitates its global proliferation. This study first elucidates the core tenets of TCM culture and the imperative for its transcultural propagation, emphasizing its holistic philosophy of “harmony between humanity and nature” (天人合一), syndrome differentiation-based therapeutic principles (辨证施治), and the integrative practice of medicinal nutrition (药食同源). Subsequently, it analyzes the unique advantages of tourism as a vehicle for TCM's cross-cultural transmission on a practical level, the research proposes a multidimensional product development framework encompassing medical tourism, festival tourism, study-abroad tourism, and business tourism. Furthermore, two thematic itineraries are designed based on regional characteristics and TCM-specific principles: a hot spring wellness tourism circuit and a specialized TCM experiential route. These initiatives establish a synergistic dissemination mechanism through resource integration, cultural semiotic decoding, technological innovation, and multi-stakeholder collaboration.
The findings demonstrate that tourism, as an embodied communication medium, effectively resolves semiotic barriers in transmitting TCM's profound cultural values. This approach provides innovative methodological frameworks and practical paradigms for the international dissemination of traditional medical systems. The study concludes that tourism-mediated strategies not only enhance cross-cultural comprehension of TCM's epistemic foundations but also foster intercultural dialogues that transcend biomedical hegemony, ultimately contributing to the co-construction of global medical pluralism.
