    Abstract

Ultrathin single crystal platinum nanowires with diameters of ∼2.5 nm and lengths up to 100 nm were synthesized on nitrogen-doped CNTs (N-CNTs) via a straightforward wet-chemical method in environmentally friendly water solution at room temperature, without using any stabilizing agent. These ultrathin nanowires and their composites with N-CNTs hold potential for a wide range of applications. © The Royal Society of Chemistry 2009.
