    Abstract

The motivation, justification and calculational details for determining the probabilities of metastable states available for occupation were discussed. The method was described by two coupled Langevin equations found in the study of instabilities in fluid dynamics and superconductivity. Optimal paths were applied to find conditional probability of ending up in metastable states. Result showed the probability of a particular state being selected in terms of parameters of the dynamics.
