Unusually facile syntheses of [RuII(bpy)3] 2+ (bpy = 2,2′-bipyridine) and [RuII(phen) 3]2+ (phen = 1,10-phenanthroline)

    Synthesis of [RuII(bpy)3]2+ (bpy=2,2́-bipyridine) and [RyII(phen)3] 2+ (phen=1,10-phenanthroline) was discussed. All reactions were performed under an Ar atmosphere and monitored by t.l.c. on neutral alumina. The nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectra were recorded on Varian Inova spectrometers operating at either 300 or 400 MHz for 1H and 75 MHz for 13C. The mass spectra were measured by using +electrospray on a micromass platform spectrometer with MeCN as solvent.
