Abstract

This paper assesses two arguments that Peter van Inwagen has offered concerning rational belief revision. The arguments purport to show that we should radically decrease our degree of belief in philosophical propositions given certain relatively uncontroversial data. Call the arguments ‘the argument from expert testimony’ and ‘the argument from contingency’.
