    Abstract

Vertical pumps are used in all the major systems of power plants and process plants. Their uninterrupted operation is essential for the continuous functioning of the plant. They can be of different capacities, types (axial/mixed), and structural designs. These units often encounter problems of high vibration due to the synergistic effect of the dynamics of the rotor and of the structure. However, these problems are complicated to solve. The complexities involved are presented in this paper through three illustrative field examples.
