Abstract
In a lecture at the end of the creative period examined in this volume, Carnap described the development of scientific philosophy to date and outlined the next step. The subject of the present article is the presentation of this further development. The problems that the former epistemology had to overcome in the "cleansing" of metaphysical slag and inappropriate psychologisms are discussed, as well as Carnap's solution, which combined purely logical investigations with empirical scientific theory and thus sought to meet different demands.
