    Abstract

This paper investigates the possibility of utilising the stator current signal spectral content to establish a wide operating speed sensorless estimation scheme in an open-loop controlled wound rotor induction machine (WRIM). A novel sliding window estimation technique is presented that utilises the supply frequency value to extract the bandwidth maximised by the tracked speed depended current spectral component. The proposed estimation technique is assessed in real-time tests on a 7.5 kW constant V/Hz controlled laboratory WRIM system and shown to deliver reliable performance in a wide operating speed range.
