    Abstract

The Russian construction industry is undergoing an immense transformation, on a scale unknown in the West. The transformation is by no means complete but there are emerging many positive features which encourage greater involvement of the West within the Russian construction sector. From the initial informal contacts and visits in 1992 by senior construction managers from St. Petersburg to the United Kingdom, a contract was granted between University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST) and St. Petersburg for the training of 50 Russian managers in Western construction methodologies. The training programme is funded by the European Union and with the collaboration of UMIST and Continental Construction Enterprises Ltd., (CCE).
